New mini-series on Relationships and Marriage on Popular Television Programme, Mann Ki Baat

New Delhi, Delhi, India, Tuesday, August 17, 2010 -- (Business Wire India) -- Mann Ki Baat (eu dh ckr), the Doordarshan programme on mental health awareness which has fast gained popularity and an increasing audience, starts a new six-episode capsule on Relationships and Marriage, starting Wednesday, August 18th. The programme is aired on Doordarshan's National Network every Wednesday and Friday at 8.30 a.m. Previously, the series has aired useful, interactive and well-received episodes on Stress and its management and on Psychosocial issues of Children and Adolescents.

The new capsule looks at young adulthood and focuses on an extremely important aspect of this life stage - relationships and marriage. It is being observed that relationships in the context of marriage are becoming increasingly fragile and marital relationships are fraught with high levels of tensions, both between the spouses as well with their in-laws. We are also witnessing an unprecedented increase in the incidence of cases of domestic violence, extramarital relationships, marital breakdowns, and ultimately to the current swelling divorce rates.

The episode in the mini-series on pre-marital relations will deal with issues like fears of making the right choice, commitment and adjustment; love vs. arranged marriage; inter-caste marriages; differing social values and cultures, and other simple and complex issues that contribute to pre-marital stress. Interpersonal tensions between couples and stresses due to extended family will be explored. Complex marital problems like extra marital affairs and domestic violence will be discussed in dedicated episodes. The stress of divorce and its legal and emotional repercussions for couples and their children will be the subject of yet another episode. The programme aims to offer remedial and preventive action through these discussions.

Work and relationships are the two most important aspects of adulthood. The aim of the series Mann Ki Baat is to tackle the problems that may arise in an individual's life because of either of the two aspects and the hazard they may pose to mental health.

Mid-life stresses, problems of the elderly and work stress related episodes will follow the capsules on relationships.

Mann Ki Baat is aired every Wednesday and Friday at 8.30 a.m. on Doordarshan National Network. The six episodes on Relationships will be aired starting Wednesday, August 18th onwards.
