Delhi Voted as the Wrong Choice to Host The Commonwealth Games
TripAdvisor Survey Reveals 56.7% of Travelers Believe India's Capital is the Wrong Choice for the Games
New Delhi, Delhi, India, Friday, September 24, 2010 -- (Business Wire India) -- TripAdvisor®, the world's largest and most popular travel community announced the results of its Commonwealth Games Survey 2010, conducted with travellers from two of the largest Commonwealth nations- UK and Canada. TripAdvisor's presence in many countries gives it access to the largest number of travellers in the world. Through its surveys with some of these travellers, it shares insights and information on trends and perceptions on a regular basis.
The Commonwealth Games Survey reveals that while majority of travellers surveyed - over 68% - were aware of the games being held in Delhi, 56.7% believe that Delhi is not the right choice to host this sporting event.
Nearly all respondents - 93.5% will not be visiting Delhi to witness this mega sporting event. Their reasons to not travel to Delhi reveal interesting perceptions -
- 30% are not interested in the games
- 25% plan to travel to other destinations
- 14%are concerned about the security during the games
- 7% think Delhi will not offer a great experience
While rumours of corruption have tarnished the image of the games, more respondents - 54.3 % were unawares/had not heard about the alleged corruption related to the games.
TripAdvisor.in is the fourth largest travel website in India, with unbiased travel information on thousands of global and Indian hotels and destinations. The Commonwealth Games Survey results analysed included answers from all respondents who took the survey during a 15 day period from August 31, 2010 to September 14, 2010. 635 completed responses were received during this period.
According to Sharat Dhall, Managing Director, TripAdvisor India said,''There has been a lot of interest in the Games in India. So, we wanted to find out what the international travelling community thought of the Delhi Games 2010, and commissioned the survey. The image of the city has taken a beating, especially in the backdrop of the government's inability to project the works it has done to make the city better.''
