(BW)(CO-WESTERN-UNION)(WU)Western Union Selects Six Global yes! Ambassadors
Company, Foundation to Donate US$60,000 to Three Nonprofits on Winners' Behalf

Englewood, Colorado, United States, Tuesday, June 16, 2009 -- (Business Wire India) --

Can six people from around the globe represent one company as ambassadors of optimism? Yes!

Global money-transfer company Western Union (NYSE: WU) announced the winners of its online global search for six yes! ambassadors.

The winners, from several regions of the world, are:

  • Kirit Parmar, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India
  • Dickson Oyaro, Minneapolis, Minn.
  • Roy Honjo, Honolulu, Hawaii
  • Teresita Drake, Trenton, N.J.
  • Yemane Muzey, New Brunswick, Canada
  • Ruben Morales Enterraos, Cuba

Each winner will be given the opportunity to choose one of three education-focused nonprofit partners - Mercy Corps, Room to Read, or Academy for Educational Development - to receive a US$10,000 donation from Western Union for a total of US$60,000.

"These six winners are perfect representatives of Western Union customers," said Gail Galuppo, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Western Union. "Their stories tell of how they overcame adversity - in some cases, great hardship - to make their dreams come true. They are an inspiration to all of us, and we're thrilled to have them as our ambassadors."

The search for six yes! ambassadors, which kicked off in late February, encouraged people to visit Western Union's website, www.wuyeseffect.com, to submit their inspirational, optimistic stories of how they or someone else said yes! to their future.

The website is part of Western Union's global yes! campaign, which embraces the hopes and dreams of the more than 200 million people around the globe who live outside their country of origin.

A panel of judges sorted through hundreds of entries to select 12 finalists. People were encouraged to visit the site again and vote for one of the 12 finalists to select a total of six winners. And vote they did - nearly 2,200 votes were cast.

Ambassadors will serve as representatives for the company, inspiring others to remain upbeat and positive in the face of adversity to achieve their dreams. In addition, ambassadors may be asked to participate in an upcoming "virtual" roundtable on migrant issues.
