MANN KI BAAT Shows the Way to Manage Work Stress and Emotions

New Delhi, Delhi, India, Monday, September 20, 2010 -- (Business Wire India) -- 'Mann Ki Baat'- Doordarshan's series on Mental Health awareness continues to address the very real issues which face nearly all individuals in society today. The next capsule that begins on the 22nd of September addresses work related stress and how people can manage emotional behaviour to control its impact on their lives.

Earlier episodes on the show - ranging from psychological issues confronting child-raising, adolescents, middle and old age have generated a tremendous response across a cross section of the Indian audience.

We live in stressful times and a major area where we face it is at our workplace. An increasing number of men and women are struggling hard to cope with stress at work and feel burdened and overloaded. Some are driven to nervous breakdowns and even burnout. What is the reason for this new occupational malaise? The first episode of the capsule will focus on ways to decrease and cope with the stress that comes with the core nature of a person's job. Another episode will be dedicated to the specific stresses generated by interpersonal tensions and difficult relationships at work and how they affect our work output as well as mental well being at our jobs.

Today millions of Indian women in the work arena in different spheres are proudly managing their careers and homes, shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts. Behind this confident exterior there are women who are extremely stressed in trying to cope with a male dominated world. Are women particularly more prone to stress issues at work or are there several other gender-specific problems that they have to put up with at their workplace? This topic will be the point of discussion in yet another episode in the capsule.

As humans we are highly emotional beings with most of our actions and behaviors being motivated by our emotional states. Our emotions have the power to control not only our mind but also our body. While positive emotions can make us feel physically elated, negative emotions eat into us, sap our energies and leave us feeling demoralized and depressed. The fourth episode of the capsule will focus on how people can manage their negative emotions in a healthy manner to increase their feelings of well being and empowerment. In continuum will be an episode on the art of cultivating a positive thought process. We are products of our thoughts and the kind of thoughts we have shape the way we feel and behave subsequently. To live a life that is positive, we need to think positive to bring on health, happiness and success. The episode will give practical tips to guide people to help themselves lead more productive lives by developing positive thoughts.

Today we realize that to be successful in our work and life, along with a sharp, analytic mind we are also required to be socially and emotionally intelligent. Emotional Intelligence as being the pathway to success is an oft repeated statement these days. What is Emotional Intelligence? How is it different from regular intelligence? Can it be cultivated? This discussion will form the basis of the sixth episode of the capsule.

The six episodes on work and emotion management will be aired starting the 22nd of September, every Wednesday and Friday, in 'Mann Ki Baat'- a series on Mental Health at 8:30 a.m. on Doordarshan's National channel.
