HCC Bags Rs 1415 crore BOT Project of NHAI


Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Monday, January 19, 2009 -- (Business Wire India) -- HCC, India's leading construction and infrastructure development Company, in joint venture with John Laing Investment Ltd and Sadbhav Engineering Ltd has bagged the prestigious order from National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to construct the 96.5 km highway from Maharashtra-Madhya Pradesh Border to Dhule on NH - 3 on BOT basis. The HCC-Laing-Sadbhav consortium will have exposure in the ratio of 37:36:27.

The contract envisages Design, Engineering, Finance, Procurement, Construction, Operation and maintenance of 96.5 kms of six lane highways. The cost of the project is estimated at about Rs 1415 crores (HCC share - Rs.524 crore). The company has received the letter of award from NHAI for this project with concession period of 18 years including the construction period of 30 months.

This is part of the National highway Development Programme (NHDP) - Phase III-A which consists of widening and strengthening of 4,000 kms of National Highways on BOT basis. NHAI has taken up a programme for upgradation of 10,000 kms of National highways under NHDP - Phase III for corridors having high-density traffic, connecting centers of tourism and places of economic importance.

In the transportation segment HCC has a strong track record in construction of Bridges, Roads, Highways, Railways and MRTS (Mass Rapid Transport System). HCC has already constructed 2227 kms roads across the country. In the MRTS space, the company has executed the Kolkata and Delhi Metro Rail project. HCC has also executed the most challenging 16 kms Ghat section of Mumbai-Pune expressway, the first ever 6 lane concrete pavement express way in India. It has built nearly 173 road bridges; the combined length of which would approximately be 46,458 meters.

HCC's overseas performance in the construction of bridges has also been impressive with over 34 bridges built in Iraq alone. It is the first Indian contracting company to venture in a big way into Jammu & Kashmir for redevelopment works. It is building 84 km of the historical Mughal Road along with 4 major hydel power projects in the state of Jammu & Kashmir. The company is also constructing the 8 lane, 4.6 km long Bandra-Worli sea-link project in Mumbai which will be an engineering masterpiece.
