Hong Kong S.A.R, Thursday, February 12, 2009 -- (Business Wire India) --

The Asia-Pacific launch by AFP and relaxnews of the first global newswire devoted to leisure and lifestyle coverage took place in Hong Kong on February, 11th, at G Bar, ifc Mall.

Agence France-Presse, one of the world's leading international news agencies, and relaxnews, the first agency to specialize in lifestyle and leisure, have combined forces to tap into a truly thriving niche market, including Asia.

  • Something good is cookin' at AFP-relaxnews !

The opening night party in Hong Kong featured a short film shot at the famed Jules Verne restaurant in the Eiffel Tower (Paris) to get the message across: "AFP and relaxnews have concocted for you the world's first leisure newswire service. Taste it !" (http://www.afprelaxnews.com)

The film highlights an OpinionWay survey carried out for AFP and relaxnews in 10 countries in October 2008. This survey shows that 95% of Indian, 87% of Chinese and 85% of Japanese people say that lifestyle issues are important in their lives. Moreover, in the midst of the economic climate, 84% of Indian, 93% of Japanese and 95% of Chinese people say that they want to dedicate the same amount or even more time to leisure activities !¹

  • Free subscription given to a selection of journalism schools in Asia

To highlight the growing importance and interest in leisure news, on the 11th of February, AFP and relaxnews have announced the names of Asian journalism schools who will receive a free subscription to the new services. Among them the Hong Kong Baptist University, Department of Journalism.

A total of 100 journalism schools around the world will receive the free subscription.

  • The AFP-relaxnews "menu"

Four services are proposed in the AFP-relaxnews "menu": relax news (80 stories a day, with pictures), relax events (selection of 100 must-see cultural events around the world), relax slide shows (2 slide shows a day, each with at least 6 captioned pictures), relax videos (1 AFP video report per day).

A team of 10 English-speaking journalists in Paris oversees the content of AFP-relaxnews, with contributions from a global network of 30 correspondents, including four permanent correspondents based in New York, Dubaï, London and Hong Kong.

70% of the content will come from relaxnews and 30% from AFP. The newswire will be organized into four categories:

  • Well-being: beauty & cosmetics, nutrition, health & fitness, sport
  • House and Home: DIY & gardening, interiors & design, environment, technology, fashion, household consumption
  • Entertainment: art, shows & exhibitions, movies, video games, books, music, television & media, Internet
