Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Friday, April 16, 2010 -- (Business Wire India) -- "It is your ability to be innovative and think beyond the obvious that will determine your success. Addressing the 501 graduating students of MBA, Ms. Morparia emphasised on inculcating values like integrity, patience and innovation in their professional and personal lives. She also stressed upon honing ones communication skills as they can be the crucial factor in ones performance. She said "In corporate world "people skills" is your ability to connect at large with your colleagues, clients and the outer world. Some of the most talented and brilliant people do not make it to the top simply because they fail to connect."
Ms. Kalpana Morparia, in her speech envisioned India as a super power by the year 2020 given its facilitative demographics and positive socio-economic environment. Mrs. Morparia also pointed out the uniqueness of India amongst other emerging markets as it has simultaneously been increasing its domestic demand and the savings rate in the country has also been constantly rising in the last decade, making it a strong contender for growth in the future.
The 6th convocation of SVKM'S NMIMS University was held on 10th April, 2010 at Bhaidas Hall, Vile Parle(west). Mr.Amrish Patel, the Chancellor of NMIMS University declared the Convocation open, followed by the welcome address by Dr. Rajan Saxena ,the Vice Chancellor of the University.
The Graduation and Convocation ceremony was a morale enhancing event for the 501 students of 2010 batch of MBA-Core Programme, PGDBM (Family Business),MBA (Pharmaceutical Mgt.),MBA (Capital Markets),MBA(Retail Mgt.),MBA(Services Management),MBA(Global Business) and MBA(Banking Mgt.)
The Vice Chancellor Dr.Rajan Saxena in his address while drawing the attention to events undertaken and accolades won by the various schools of the university also highlighted NMIMS'S commitment to knowledge creation; he said "For us at NMIMS, the challenge is not just innovating in our programme structure and pedagogy but on overall learning experience". He also said that new concepts are being explored, citing the example of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) he said, "What we need is learning modules which will encourage critical thinking and development of social skills. We need look at new modules of learning, beyond the immediate boundaries of our discipline and programmes."
He also said that NMIMS withholds the principle of autonomy and accountability simultaneously. He said" The institutional autonomy refers to not just administrative and financial but to the academic autonomy. The other side of the autonomy is accountability. At NMIMS we will have to have a culture of both autonomy and accountability, one alone is not enough. "
Dr. Chandan Dasgupta, Associate Dean, MBA Programmes presented a Review of Full Time programmes of the School of Business Management.
The ceremony began with the Academic Procession led by the Registrar of the University Mrs. Varsha Pareb. This was preceded by the entry of the Student Procession led by the Student Council Members and the Class Representatives, accompanied by the army band.
Successful students were presented with the Degree by the Chancellor Mr. Amrish Patel, the Vice Chancellor Dr. Rajan Saxena and the Chief Guest Ms. Kalpana Morparia.
Mr. Amrish Patel conferred the Award of Degree, which was acknowledged by the call of 'AYE' from the students.
Afterwards Dr. M.N. Welling, Pro Vice Chancellor presented a vote of thanks, thanking all the present dignitaries and the Chief Guest.

In 1981, by the order of the University of Mumbai, Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies was established to meet the growing demand for young managers. The parent body, Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal was among the first educational trusts to have realized this need and further the interests of aspiring management students and also meet the needs of the challenging world of business.
