Indian Dairy Association (IDA) Honours B. M. Vyas for his Outstanding Role
Gujarat, India, Saturday, February 07, 2009 -- (Business Wire India) -- The Indian Dairy Association (IDA) has bestowed on Shri B. M. Vyas, Managing Director, Guajrat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd.(Amul), owned by 27 lakh producer members, the very first Ch. V Nagar Awards for the year 2008 for unmatchable contribution in the progress of dairy industry for the last many years. Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam presented the award on February 7, 2009 at Goa during the inaugural session of the 37th Dairy Industry Conference. The award consists of a memento along with a citation and a cash reward of Rs. one lakh.
Indian Dairy Association (IDA) Ch. V Nagar Award has been instituted jointly by the Indian Dairy Association in collaboration with Paras Group in 2008 to honour those individuals for outstanding technological innovation in the field of Animal Science or Dairy Technology, which has had a major impact in the development of the Indian Dairy Industry.
The IDA constituted a high power committee comprising outstanding professionals in the dairy sector to scrutinize the nominations and select the most suitable person. Shri Vyas has been chosen for this award for his excellent contribution to this field. Under his stewardship there has been a tremendous growth of almost Rs. 6500 crores in sales turnover of cooperatives under Amul, and member unions have made a record milk collection of 110 lakh litres per day. Amul is India's largest and most successful network which is providing respectful livelihood to millions of farmers of our country.
While serving in GCMMF, Shri Vyas introduced the concept of Total Quality Management across the supply chain, developed and launched 30 new products and developed India's largest cold chain network including creation of India's largest ice-cream and milk brand. He guided implementation of self-leadership programme at village level which led to transparency and deployment of modern technology at village level in the form of automatic milk collection system, bulk chilling units, etc.
