Pearl Academy of Fashion Celebrates its 17th Convocation Day


New Delhi, Delhi, India, Thursday, October 22, 2009 -- (Business Wire India) -- Pearl Academy of Fashion (PAF), India's leading fashion and design institute, which is known for its internationally benchmarked quality of education, organized its 17th convocation for the graduating batches on 12th October, 2009 at the Air Force Auditorium, Subroto Park, Dhaula Kuan.

The convocation was graced by Ms. Rita Menon, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, who as the Chief Guest also delivered the convocation address, and Prof. Neil T Gorman, Vice Chancellor, Nottingham Trent University, U.K who was the Guest of Honor. Mr. Deepak Seth, Chairman of LPES and House of Pearl Fashion Limited welcomed the guests and the students.

A total of 393 students from 15 Post graduate and Undergraduate programmes from Pearl Academy of Fashion, Delhi & Jaipur and Pearl School of Business, Gurgaon were conferred their degrees/diplomas. Apart from the students, 15 members of faculty were conferred the prestigious PGCHE from Nottingham Trent University. Here, it may not be out of place to mention that this year Pearl was rated number one in competence of faculty by a leading newspaper which is a reflection of the international academic qualifications like PGCHE that Pearl faculty acquire. This is the edge which has made Pearl student the much sought after brand by all the leading international and national names in the fashion industry. Last year, Pearl students won over 20 awards in international and national level competitions.

One of the characteristics that separates Pearl Academy of Fashion form others is its association and wholehearted support for social causes. It is working with other like minded organizations on several such projects which include helping Tihar jail inmates get trained in weaving techniques, helping rural craftsmen develop modern designs and market their products, helping industry develop sustainable practices in a profitable way and so on. Pearl Academy of fashion is also working on "Shared Talent India", an exciting cross cultural collaboration between Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, UK and Govt. of India. The project is being implemented by London College of Fashion in association with Pearl Academy of Fashion where a collaborative design development exercise involving Indian designers, students from Pearl Academy of Fashion, London College of Fashion and AMFI, Amsterdam culminated in development of different sustainable products.
