To Build a New Consciousness on Social and Environmental Sustainability a Three Day Fest Aahvaan- The Awakening Call Celebrated

New Delhi, Delhi, India, Monday, October 26, 2009 -- (Business Wire India) -- On the occasion of completion of ten glorious years, TERI University reaffirmed its commitment to contribute globally by serving society as a seat of advanced learning, and to promote learning through teaching and through creating and sharing knowledge in the realms of energy, environment, and sustainable development.

Addressing students from 12 other colleges of Delhi University, Jamia and IP university and distinguished people from various facets of life who had come for the celebrations and competitions, Dr RK Pachauri, Chancellor TERI University and Director-General TERI, while congratulating and lauding the students and staff of the university on completing 10 glorious years said, "The twenty-first century will undoubtedly represent a high point for human civilization in the development and utilization of knowledge on an unprecedented scale. In keeping the university's mission of creating leaders, apart from various activities and competitions, there was an interactive session between the Youth (tomorrow's global leaders) and the global Movers and Shakers on 24th October 2009. The interactive session "Sustainability, Climate Change and Youth" sought to establish a process to promote dialogue between the youth community, government and business at all levels and to provide a platform that permits youth access to information to provide them with the opportunity to present their perspectives on policy, climate issues and business decisions.

The Key note addresses was given by Hon'ble Mr. Sachin Pilot, Minister of State for Communication and Technology, Govt of India and Dr RK Pachauri.

The other panelists included notable public figures: Mr. Ajay Jadeja, Ace Indian Cricketer, Mr. Nitin Desai(Distinguished Fellow TERI and former Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations), Mr. Philippe Welti (Ambassador of Switzerland), and Mr. Raj Chengappa, Managing Editor, India Today Magazine.

The inter-college fest, 'Aahvaan - The awakening call' was a multi-faceted, diverse and unique opportunity for students and young minds to intermingle on various aspects, be it the innovative competitions-Photography, Business Sustainability plan, newspaper ad making, treasure hunt or knowledge sharing. To add a zing, a star night lit by the rock band - Bandish, was a crowd puller.
