(BW)(CT-GENERAL-ELECTRIC)(GE)(6301)GE Transportation and Komatsu Complete Delivery of the First AC Mining Trucks in India

Erie, Pennsylvania, United States, Thursday, January 28, 2010 -- (Business Wire India) --

GE Transportation and Komatsu announced the delivery of 17 Komatsu 830E-AC mining trucks containing GE240ACT drive systems to Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL). The units will be the first AC mining trucks in India.

HZL is currently expanding production at the Rampura Agucha Mine as demand for zinc continues to rise around the globe. The AC trucks provide increased productivity and availability levels while lowering life cycle costs.

"Komatsu is proud to commission the very first AC mining trucks in India with our customer HZL," said Yamada Koji, Managing Director, Komatsu India Private Limited. "These trucks will increase productivity because of higher uphill and downhill speeds while lowering maintenance costs for HZL through fewer wearing components. HZL will also have access to an extensive in-country service network."

"GE and Komatsu have had a 40-year relationship partnering on electric drive mining trucks, and we're pleased to be able to work with them to bring the latest drive system technology to India," said Lori Kieklak, Business Leader of Mining, GE Transportation. "Drive systems like the GE240ACT will allow HZL to meet their mine plan with fewer assets deployed compared to a mechanical system."

GE Transportation delivers AC and DC electric drive systems for 120-ton to 360-ton mining trucks manufactured and operated from Brazil to Belarus and from China to Australia. Currently, more than 4,000 GE electric drive systems for off highway vehicles are in use in more than 35 countries worldwide.
