RuralShores Sets up a New Center in Thirthahalli

Shimoga, Karnataka, India, Friday, January 22, 2010 -- (Business Wire India) -- RuralShores Business Services today announced the opening of their second rural BPO center in Karnataka. The Honorable Chief Minister of Karnataka, Sri B S Yedyurappa inagurated the new center at Thirthahalli, Shimoga District, on 22nd January 2010 in the presence of eager citizens of the district, who will operate this 117-seater state-of-art facility. The center, powered by Cisco technology, will provide employment to nearly 200 rural youth from the town and surrounding villages. These youth, with qualifications ranging from 10th standard to a degree, will first undergo 3 months of training on skill development before working on client processes.

The first center at Bagepalli (Chikkaballapur District, Karnataka) has nearly 150 youth enagaged in process work for leading companies based in the country. These youngsters, predominantly from a farming background with high school education, are delivering excellent work, thanks to intensive training offered by RuralShores.

RuralShores plans to set up 30 more such centers in the rural areas of each district of Karnataka over next 3 years providing training and direct employment to nearly 6000 such youth. Each Rural BPO job can create indirect livelihood opportunities for 3 other people which in turn can touch and benefit the lives of nearly 24,000 people and their families across the state providing a decent living for over one lakh people in Rural Karnataka. RuralShores has worked with Cisco to define the technology architecture for the initiative, in lines with the company's governance model, which consists of four layers; rural BPO/delivery center, regional centers, hub centers and the data center.

Speaking on the occasion, Sri Yedyurappa said, "There is a significant alignment of goals between the Cisco-RuralShores mission and those of our Government. In that we seek to bring employment opportunities to villages, prevent migration of youth to cities and promote economic and social inclusion".

While thanking the Government of Karnataka and the Chief minister, Murali Vullaganti, CEO of RuralShores said, "RuralShores founded by eminent leaders from corporate India and supported by leading a financial institution in the country will also fortify the hands of Governments with the twin objectives of fostering rural economy through skill development and employment and to bring efficiency and economics to all clients migrating work to Rural India."

"We would like to congratulate RuralShores Business Services on the inauguration of their second rural BPO center in Karnataka. This is a significant initiative and Cisco is proud to be associated with it," said Toby Burton, vice president, Cisco Globalisation Centre, East. "The ability to help private and governmental organisations around the country, to take advantage of the network to promote rural development and employment, is a tremendous opportunity. We're pleased that the RuralShores and the government of Karnataka share this vision and is committed to implementing these programs," he added. The technology solution would incorporate the latest Cisco technologies for connectivity, computing, security, collaboration, contact center and physical security, amongst others.
