Sify Selects Cisco to Help Build Optical Network Across India
Sify Expands IP-Next Generation Network (IP-NGN) to Include Cisco Optical Transport

New Delhi, Delhi, India, Tuesday, September 15, 2009 -- (Business Wire India) -- Cisco today announced that Sify (Nasdaq National Markets: SIFY) has selected the Cisco® ONS 15454 Multi Service Transport Platform (MSTP) as the foundation of Sify's optical network. The decision is part of Sify's strategy to enhance its existing core network to meet its customers' ever increasing demand for sophisticated network services and to address the rapidly evolving India market. The announcement highlights Cisco's expertise and leadership in optical networking and emphasizes the growing relevance of flexibility, manageability and scalability in service provider networks.

"We are in the process of transforming our network infrastructure into an IP Next Generation Network to deliver triple play and more. These technology investments are aimed at making us more competitive in the services we offer across enterprise and consumer segments going forward," said Mr. Arvind Mathur, chief architect, Sify Technologies Limited. "Cisco was the right choice for us as ONS15454 MSTP is technically the foremost platform to meet our scalability needs and at the same time cost efficient for low bandwidth requirements."

"Sify was the first to launch managed connectivity services over a TCP/IP network in April 1998, and has continually pioneered managed infrastructure services, as well as set the standard for such services in India," said Mr. Pranesh Babu, senior vice president, Network Services & Engineering, Sify Technologies Limited. "The migration of our core network infrastructure to an IP Next Generation Network helps enable us to offer more sophisticated services for voice, video and data, with higher levels of service quality for customers. One of the advantages with Cisco ONS 15454 MSTP is that the platform is extremely easy to commission and operate, minimizing our operating expenses. Sify has been able to install and commission the equipment on its own without support from Cisco. With this investment, Sify has once again set the standard for the data telecom services industry in India."

Commenting on the announcement, Bill Gartner, vice president and general manager, Cisco Optical Transport Business Unit said, "We are pleased to extend our relationship with Sify to develop and deploy the technologies that would help enable them to provide advanced data network and Internet services to their customers. The ONS 15454 MSTP, the best in class DWDM platform, will let carriers seamlessly carry all of their existing communications infrastructures for voice, video, and data and storage onto a single infrastructure."

"Indian Service Providers are working towards greater control of their network and overall operations to succeed against competitive and market forces. Cisco's Optical and IP NGN solutions enable broad network transformation that encompasses not just the Service Provider's network but their entire business. We believe this is one of the first steps for a Service Provider to move towards becoming an 'Experience Provider' and we're pleased to work with Sify on this evolutionary path." added Gartner.

The Cisco ONS 15454 Multi Service Transport Platform, a core component of the Cisco's Optical Solutions and Internet Protocol Next-Generation Network (IP NGN) architecture, offers capabilities, reliability and scalability required for service providers to offer any-play services. The platform offers unprecedented flexibility and scalability to build a mesh optical network using state of the art technologies - multi-degree colorless and directionless ROADMs, Carrier Ethernet Switching, SDH Cross-connect and Transponders/Muxponders for all services including data, voice, video and storage.
