New Delhi, Delhi, India, Thursday, January 14, 2010 -- (Business Wire India) -- -- Joined by all STAR Plus protagonists and 500 women supporters in a HUMAN CHAIN at Nariman point, Mumbai

Position of women in India is in a really bad shape. The number of cases of crime and injustice against women are rising day by day, be it in the form of eve teasing faced by the women or the ill treatment in her married life. With the increasing numbers of cases of crime against women, it was time to pledge social support and stand in union against it!

STAR Plus's newest protagonist Pratigya (of the Meri Pratigya show on Star Plus) took a lead to fight against the ill-treatment against women. She gathered support from hundreds of women who joined in a Human Chain organized at Nariman point by STAR Plus. The Objective of the Human chain was to create awareness against eve-teasing and atrocities faced by women of today & an initiative to put a stop to it.

This initiative started with an aim to take the new show: "Meri Pratigya", beyond television and impact viewers. The first leg of this initiative started off on 23rd December with a Human Chain at Nariman Point, Mumbai, which saw close to 500 women joining hands and supporting the movement. Human chain was backed by members of various NGO's fighting for women rights. Women held placards carrying different messages like "stop eve teasing" & "Stand against ill treatment" to communicate the message to the society.

This Human chain led by Pratigya (Puja Gaur) also gained support from all the leading ladies of the Star Parivaar like Parul Chauhan and Sara Khan (Ragini and Sadhna of Sapna Babul Ka.Bidaai), Neha Saxena and Zalak Desai ( Dhani and Sarla of Sajan Ghar Jana Hai) in her endeavor to spread the message to fight back against disrespect towards women.

Commenting on this unique initiative, Anupam Vasudev, EVP, Marketing, STAR India Pvt Ltd, said, "Through Meri Pratigya initiative, we plan to reach out to our audiences & hence increase engagement with the show. Creating footprint in most of our Hindi speaking markets, the Human Chain will focus on finding real life stories and honoring the victor- it will honor heroes in everyday lives."

Ambika Sharma, National Head Jagran Solutions comments, "Meri Pratigya initiative was conceptualized and designed to reach out to women across the country. The footprint of this initiative will extend to colleges, market-places and women's hostels across India. This initiative will involve sign-up campaigns, counseling workshops, which will be carried out in partnerships with NGOs against women disrespect."

This activity was STAR Plus' first step in gathering support for Pratigya's fight against disrespect and mistreatment against women in everyday life.
