Astra Microwave Wins INR 138 mn Order from Antrix, India's Department of Space Arm

Astra Microwave Products Ltd, India's leading provider of microwave wireless technologies for use in defense, space, and telecommunications, today announced that it has received an INR 138 million order from Antrix Corporation Ltd. The commercial arm of India's Department of Space, Antrix markets products and services related with space exploration to global customers.
The order is for the supply, installation, and commissioning of remote unmanned automatic remote weather stations in 500 locations across India. Scheduled to be commissioned before May 2009, the weather stations will feed live data via satellite to the Indian Space Research Organization's central servers on a 24X7 basis.
The Antrix order follows the INR 255 million order for automatic weather stations, in August 2008, by the Indian Meteorological Department. With this order, Astra Microwave's total order book now stands at INR 1.76 billion.
Each automated weather station will consist of:
-- Data logging and transmission system
-- GPS receiver and transmitter
-- Antenna
-- Solar panel
-- Remote display unit
-- Sensors for temperature, relative humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind speed and direction, solar radiation, rainfall, soil moisture and temperature, among others.
