Reassures Completion of India's Largest Water Supply O&M Project in Mysore on Time in a Phased Manner and as per Original Plan, on the Special Occasion

Bangalore, Karnataka, India and Mysore, Saturday, March 27, 2010 -- (Business Wire India) -- Jamshedpur Utilities & Services Company (JUSCO), India's first comprehensive urban infrastructure service provider in the private sector, has re-dedicated its commitment towards providing "quality services for life" including water, power, infrastructure and public health.

Carved out of Tata Steel from its Town Services Division in 2004, JUSCO has ventured beyond Jamshedpur to create new facilities in water supply and water treatment in addition to maintaining and modernising the existing ones in various cities across the country. On the occasion of the World Water Day, held here on 22 March 2010, JUSCO reiterated its commitment to providing clean and continuous water supply for a healthy world.

JUSCO, which is executing India's largest water supply operation & management (O&M) project in Mysore under a tripartite agreement between itself, Mysore City Corporation (MCC) and Karnataka Urban Water Supply & Drainage Board (KUWS & DB), has assured to complete the six-year Performance Based Management Contract on time. The project began in early 2009.

At Mysore, Team JUSCO participated in a recognition function organised by the Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW) & Mysore City Corporation (MCC) on the occasion of World Water Day 2010. Mr Manivannan - IAS, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, Mysore, Mr Raykar, KAS -Commissioner, MCC, Mr Purushottam - Worshipful Mayor, MCC, Mr Suresh Babu - Superintending Engineer, JnNURM, MCC, Mr Subbegowda - Executive Engineer, KUWS&DB, JnNURM Division, Mr Laxman - Convenor, ACICM and other representatives of MCC, VVWW, KUWS&DB and JUSCO, participated in the half-day programme.

During the programme about 14 VVWW employees of different cadres including valve-men, meter readers, water inspectors and engineers were honoured by Worshipful Mayor & Deputy Commissioner. On the same occasion, JUSCO also distributed the special Puraskar Awards to the high-performing employees, which were given away by the Worshipful Mayor & Deputy Commissioner. On this occasion, JUSCO also organised drawing & painting competition, quiz & slogan writing competition for the children of Jagadamba School, Mysore and distributed handbills containing key social messages near Mysore Palace, to mark the occasion.

At Jamshedpur, the World Water Day 2010 event was flagged-off by Mr Sanjiv Paul, Managing Director, JUSCO, at the J N Tata statue, Jubilee Park. V D Gopal Krishna, Working President, JUSCO Shramik Union, other senior management members of JUSCO, union officials and citizens also participated in programme.

Highlighting the company's commitment in offering best-value infrastructure and utilities services, Mr. Sanjiv Paul said, "In a short time span of just six years, JUSCO has created a niche for itself in the infrastructure sector. Speaking on the World Water Day occasion, Mr. G. S. Basu, General Manager, JUSCO, said, "Providing continuous water (24x7) is the most cost effective way of water distribution both for the urban local bodies (ULBs) and the customers." JUSCO has just finished the preparation phase for modification of water distribution system of Mysore City, which is aimed at providing continuous water supply (24 x 7), its operations and maintenance.

"Through projects like this, based on public-private partnerships, there will be an increase in the quantity and quality of water available for distribution to the public. Quality water supply results in bringing down the incidence of water-borne diseases and also improve the health of the citizens," Mr. Basu added.

Under the public-private partnership initiative, JUSCO has been delivering power and other utility services to eight states. From maintaining the water system of Mysore to distributing electricity in Jamshedpur, JUSCO has also taken up construction of new water treatment plant on BOT (build-operate-transfer) basis at Haldia. On the occasion, Team JUSCO in Haldia distributed "Water Wise" information booklet amongst children, organised awareness march and conducted door-to-door education campaign in the town on water conservation and wastage.
