Public Private Partnership: How to Make it Work

New Delhi, Delhi, India, Friday, March 12, 2010 -- (Business Wire India) -- The central government launched the National eGovernance Plan in the year 2006 to use IT in the delivery of government services and take government services at the doorstep of every citizen. The $6 billion NEGP was to be executed in the public-private-partnership with the private players pitching in with know-how and technology in the field. SAB Group's recently launched magazine Governance Now organized a Round Table Conference and invited different stakeholders to deliberate on Public Private Partnership in e-governance and How to make it work.

The aim of the Round Table is to bring together practitioners of governance in a particular field for a round table discussion on a topic germane to that field. The intention is to create an atmosphere of discussion & participation between the stakeholders, which may give birth to new ideas and ways of thinking.

The participants included Tanmoy Chakrabarty, vice president and head of Govt Industry Solutions Unit of TCS, Sudhir Aggarwal, senior vice president and head of Government Initiative of Sify, Sumanta Pal, senior vice president, Strategic Marketing of SREI Sahaj, Satish Jha, president & CEO, OLPC India, Dinesh Tyagi, CEO of IL&FS, and Sandip Sehgal, director, Government Vertical of Red Hat.

The Round Table witnessed a powerful discussion amongst the participants. Discussing the sub-theme 'Converting PPPs in eGovernance from proposal to practice,' the participants were mostly critical of the government and urged for more support to implement and sustain these models. Speaking on the behalf of the IL & FS, a department of information technology promoted company, Dinesh Tyagi said that there is no dearth of schemes at the government level but implementation of the projects requires active cooperation between several departments.
