Innovative Indian Workforce Scores High on the Global Mobility Index

Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, Tuesday, October 12, 2010 -- (Business Wire India) -- Ma Foi Randstad, India's largest integrated HR services company and a part of Randstad, world's second largest HR services company released the third wave of Ma Foi Randstad Workmonitor today.

The Ma Foi Randstad Workmonitor is a quarterly review of "mental mobility status" of employees, i.e., their readiness to change jobs. As part of this process, the state of mind of workers is studied in 25 countries encompassing Europe, Asia Pacific, and the Americas, compared amongst countries and finally presented in the form of an index. The index shows the extent to which employees are thinking of changing their jobs in a short-term while compared to other countries in the world.

Amongst all the countries surveyed, India has the highest index of 141. This implies that the maximum employee churn across the globe will be in India, followed by China and Mexico. This is corroborated by the findings of factual job change in the past six months, where again, the scores are the highest in India followed by China. Also, a significant proportion of employees in India, China and Mexico are confident of finding another job.

Another interesting fact that has arisen out of the survey is that Indian employees developed better during the economic crisis as they worked differently vis-à-vis a regular regime (as said by 78%). This clearly highlights an innovative streak!

The economic crisis was a developmental opportunity to most Indians, which is much higher than what Chinese said with a score of 64%. However, more employees in China went through a structured training programme through their employer during the past year (71%) compared to those in India (61%). This finding suggests that Indian employees used the downturn better than their Chinese counterparts to explore innovative methods for accomplishing their jobs and hence growing professionally - 78% in India vis-à-vis 64% in China, despite higher training investment in China (71%) compared to India (61%).

The findings also suggest that organisations that provide an enabling platform for employee development will engage their employees better. This is substantiated by the findings where Chinese employees have expressed significantly less satisfaction with their employers (50%) than those in India (73%). The world weighted average is still less compared to India at 68%. This indicates that Indian businesses are more employee focussed than in China and world average.

Eight out of ten Indian employees surveyed said that they would move to another organisation that promises faster and better development. Hence, sustained and increased developmental initiatives will directly help in retention. This would be especially relevant amongst those in the 25 - 34 age group.

Speaking on the occassion, Mr. K Pandia Rajan, CEO, Ma Foi Randstad (India & Sri Lanka) said, "Though the study reflects an increase in the mobility and a focus on promotion in the workforce, it also brings to light the fact that employees would be satisfied with organisations that are better equipped to handle their developmental plans. This should give great insights to organisations to focus on employee engagement and development."

The findings of the study have been indexed to have an easier understanding of the employee mobility intent. The mobility index is derived based on employees responses to two questions about their intent to change their job - the first question is about changing the current employer for a comparable job in the next six months and the second question is about changing their current employer for a different job / profession in the next six months.

In addition to the Mobility Index, the survey also assesses employee satisfaction & personal motivation. It provides a comprehensive understanding of job market sentiments and employee trends.
